What claude-mem is
claude-mem is an open-source Claude Code plugin that captures what happens in coding sessions, compresses it, and injects relevant context into later sessions.
What Auld is
Auld is a memory service. Your systems send time-stamped records; Auld extracts memories, reconciles changes into current state with history, and returns cited memories scoped to the viewer, over REST or MCP.
Differences in design
| Dimension | claude-mem | Auld |
|---|---|---|
| Scope | One developer’s Claude Code sessions | Any agent, product or team |
| Storage | Local | Managed, or your cloud |
| Sources | Coding sessions | Any system: CRM, tickets, email, sessions |
| Sharing | Local by default | Audiences |
Running both
A developer can keep claude-mem for personal session recall and use Auld through the Claude Code recipe for team decisions. Avoid recalling from both on every prompt if they hold the same content; you would pay twice in context.
How to choose
Choose claude-mem when
- You want automatic personal session memory in Claude Code with no service.
Choose Auld when
- You want shared team memory, or memory inside an application you ship.
Evaluate and verify
Trade-offs depend on your data. Run the same test set against each option — the methodology page has a checklist — and confirm current capabilities in the official documentation.
